Three floors, three hybrid systems: a guest house in Nawala
Hiran runs a guest house in Nawala on three floors, each with its own electricity meter. In September 2026 we installed three separate hybrid solar systems with batteries, one per floor, with all of each floor's loads on backup.

One system per floor
Each floor has a Solis 5 kW single-phase hybrid inverter, a battery and 4.96 kWp of panels in two strings; the three arrays come to about 14.9 kWp. All of a floor's loads run from the inverter's backup output, and an automatic transfer switch returns the floor to the grid if the inverter stops. The three systems share nothing, so a fault on one floor stays on that floor.
The three inverters report to one SolisCloud station, and our monitoring platform reads it every day.
What the monitoring showed
On the night of 30 September 2026 the third floor drew 7.38 kW from its 5 kW inverter. The battery reached its reserve and the inverter's output tripped five times overnight. Each time the transfer switch carried the floor on the grid, and no guest lost power.
From 7 October SolisCloud began flagging low production. The inverter data showed both panel inputs live on every floor and the batteries full by late morning. The site does not export to the grid, so once a floor's battery is full its inverter throttles the array to what the floor is using. The low yield was curtailment, not a fault.
Still being worked through
Two changes are being worked through with Hiran.
- Moving daytime loads onto the systems while the arrays are being throttled.
- More battery storage.

Planning something similar?
Say where the building is, how it is metered and what must stay on when the grid fails, and an engineer will arrange a visit.
