For Business
Turn your standby generator into a solar hybrid power system
Most businesses already paid for redundancy — a diesel generator waiting for the next power cut. A solar hybrid conversion puts that investment to work: solar and battery storage carry the load, the grid fills the gaps, and the generator you already own starts automatically only when it is genuinely needed. It is the same layered design as our redundant uninterrupted power supply, reached by converting the equipment you already own.
What is included
- Survey of your existing generator, controller and changeover
- Hybrid inverter and solar PV array sized to your load
- LiFePO4 battery energy storage (BESS)
- Automatic generator start from the hybrid system, through the controller you already have
- Monitoring of solar, battery, grid and generator in one view
Why it is worth doing
Reduce losses from power cuts
Battery storage takes over almost immediately when the grid drops, so production is not waiting on a generator to crank and warm up.
Save on energy and fuel
Solar supplies daytime power, the battery shifts energy to when it is worth most under time-of-use tariffs, and the generator runs far fewer hours.
Reliable and long-lived
Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries are built for thousands of charge cycles and are a safe, stable chemistry for daily use.
Keeps the generator you own
Existing redundancy is not scrapped. The generator stays as the backup to the backup — exercised, monitored and ready.
Local engineering
Designed, installed and supported by KTronics engineers, with remote monitoring after handover.
How the conversion works
The generator is not replaced — it is promoted to the last line of defence.
- Solar PV powers the site during the day and charges the battery.
- When the grid fails, the battery takes over — there is no wait for an engine to start.
- If an outage runs long and the battery gets low, the hybrid system signals the generator to start.
- The generator recharges the battery and supports the load, then stops once it is no longer needed.
Built on the generator retrofit we already do
Many standby generators already have an auto-start controller with a remote start input that nobody uses. A hybrid inverter's generator-start contact is exactly the kind of signal that input expects: a contact held closed for as long as the engine should run. We connect the two, so the controller you already own does the starting — and its front-panel manual mode still overrides the remote signal. We check the controller actually fitted before quoting, because look-alike controllers are common and we wire from what is on your panel, not from a brochure.
Safety comes first
Every conversion keeps a clear, safe changeover arrangement with no path to back-feed the utility network, and a local lockout so the engine cannot be started remotely while someone is servicing it.
